Smoky peat smoke curls into warm orange rind and cracked pepper, and you feel it before the sip settles. Bruichladdich Octomore 16.1 is a 59.50% ABV Islay single malt Scotch whisky from Scotland that carries intense barley smoke, charred coastal iodine, espresso bean bitterness and a sweet undercurrent of vanilla oak; it is made from heavily peated malt, distilled as a single malt and matured in oak casks, and pairs beautifully with blue cheese or dark chocolate.

Bruichladdich began on Islay in 1881 when the Harvey brothers built a coastal distillery at the head of Loch Indaal, and its history since has threaded Victorian engineering, wartime closures, revival in the 2000s, and a return to local provenance; the distillery is best known in the Islay category for a production philosophy that champions terroir and traceable Scottish barley, clear labelling, and experimental barrel and peat regimes while maintaining a largely unpeated core range, all produced in copper pot stills on site; beyond its signature Bruichladdich single malts it fields distinctive lines that express opposite ends of the Islay spectrum, including the heavily peated Octomore and Port Charlotte bottlings, the Islay Barley series that highlights estate and regional barley, and a separate distillate, The Botanist gin.
